Alexei
“Ava!” Alexei calls out in that boisterous tone of his, a hand extended out to her. “Dance with me?”
Ava blinks in surprise, unsure what to do with his request.
Noticing her hesitation, Alexei wiggles his fingers, as though that would properly coax her out of her shell. “Come, come!”
She could phase through the floor and away from the man in favor of hiding in her room. Maybe she should have. Instead, Ava finds herself rolling her eyes with a smile, slipping her hand into his. His eyes light up, laughing joyously, pressing a kiss to the back of her hand before leading them into a gentle sway.
Bob
The bed dips and a body falls down beside her. Ava would be more worried if she hadn’t already anticipated his arrival. Bob curls into her side wordlessly. Her fingers instantly find his hair, carding through it easily.
“Another nightmare?”
His silence is all the answer she needs. She can feel the tension in his body against hers. Worry for the others who had gone on a mission without them.
Ava presses a kiss to the top of his head as Bob buries his face into the crook of her neck.
“They’ll be fine.” The words meant to reassure them both.
Yelena
“I should have done something.”
Yelena rests her forehead against Ava’s. Ava reaches out with gentle hands, caressing her cheeks with her thumbs.
“Yelena, there was nothing you could have done.”
The young widow takes a shaky breath, “I know. I know, but” She continues in Russian, too low for Ava to catch.
“She’d be proud of you,” Ava’s not the first to reiterate these words to the young woman. Yet, she often needs to hear them.
“I miss her so much,” Yelena sobs.
Ava tilts her head up, pressing a kiss on Yelena’s forehead, catching her tears with her thumbs.
John
“Would you say I’m more hero than villain?
The next spoonful pauses on its way to Ava’s mouth. She stares at John, who’s leaning towards her expectantly.
“You’ve never been a villain, John.”
He doesn’t look convinced.
“Misguided perhaps. But not a villain.”
“I’ve done bad things.”
Ava frowns. “Who hasn’t? Have you forgotten who our teammates are? We’ve all done bad things. Some more than others.”
John hums, searching her face for something. Whatever it was, he seemed to find it. He surprises her with a kiss on the cheek, stealing the cereal from her spoon before walking off.
Bucky
“Easy doll, I got you.”
Ava doesn’t know how long she’s been in bed – writhing in pain – before Bucky finds her.
She’s just happy he did.
Bucky carefully pulls her on top of him the instant her body has regained its corporeal form, his vibranium hand gently pressing against the small of her back. It’s not an instant cure, but the solid presence is enough for Ava in the moment.
He brushes away some stray hair from her face, pressing a gentle to her lips. Ava can’t help the sigh of relief as the pain slowly eases beneath Bucky’s touch.
